ABOUT THE EPISODE:
Dave Matthews and Emmylou Harris come together on CMT Crossroads for an episode taped in New York City.
"She just opened her mouth and that sound happened from her," Matthews tells CMT, about the first time he sang with Harris. "It was so phenomenal to be in the same room with [her voice] because it is just exceptional. It is one of the most unusual pipes that has ever come out, and one of the most beautiful."
An 11-time Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Harris has been hailed as a major figure in several of America's most important musical movements of the past three decades. A steadfast supporter of roots music and a skilled interpreter of compelling songs, she also has been associated with a diverse array of admiring collaborators. Harris' contributions to country-rock, the bluegrass revival, folk music and the Americana movement are widely lauded as she has carved out a sound uniquely her own. Harris' album Stumble Into Grace follows her Grammy-winning Red Dirt Girl (2000), which was the artist's best-selling album in 20 years. Both albums focus on her resurrected songwriting skills.
Meanwhile, Matthews has always done things his own way. In the 10 years since the release of their debut album, the Dave Matthews Band has galvanized a community of music fans, releasing multi-platinum live and studio discs year after year. A charismatic and outspoken front man and songwriter, Matthews has stretched the boundaries of rock and pop, integrating jazz, classical and world music influences with the lyrics of a natural storyteller. He's also one of the principals of the annual Farm Aid concert. His first solo effort, Some Devil, has sold nearly a million copies and has garnered critical acclaim.
